ive been considering changing my url for at least a year but never thought of anything until now, when i literally sat bolt upright in bed with the perfect name idea having been dropped into my brain

ds9 au where they actually work at the mall. sisko as exshausted ex military supervisor. odo as paul plart mall cop on a segway. quark owns and runs every chain at the food court and illegally sells liquor and weed through the popeyes. dax works at the victoria secret and worf works in the sports store across from the vs and eventually gets fired because he won't stop breaking the equipment so dax gets him a job at the vs and he is immidiately promoted to floor manager because he's such a good salesman. kira as the butch lesbian mcdonalds manager that runs the place like the navy. garak is still a shitty tailor. miles is still the maintenance guy and keiko owns a small flower shop and secretly grows the weed quark sells. jake and nog have shoplifted from every single store at least three times and odo has caught them every single time. dukat is still an intergalactic war lord trying to kill them all.

STAR TREK UPDATE TIME. friday we FINALLY kicked off ds9 season 4 with "way of the warrior" pts i & ii and oh my godddd:

firstly, i miss sisko''s hair. the beard looks GREAT it's a HUGE improvement but i miss his hair!! i also kinda miss kira's really butch cut. jadzia's hair is still touch and go...important ds9 topics

drilling changeling combat with odo is SO fun. but like also, such a dramatic turn from like, s1, when he pretends to be objects and doesn't want anyone to remember he can do this, because he wants to be able to spy on them. it's fun and funny etc but i could also write an essay about it. he's allowing his body, once a subject of scientific study that traumatized him, to be used again by his allies as a…if not subject of study again, exactly, a teaching tool. he's teaching them how to find and contain and maybe even hurt his people but at the same time HE IS USING HIMSELF TO DO IT he is ALSO TEACHING THEM HOW TO HURT HIM. yes, they're comically bad at it NOW, but they're just getting started, and it also illustrates how horrifically underprepared they are for his people to come and fuck with them at any time. i can't keep thinking about odo i'm going to make myself insane

spn has traumatized me bc i was half convinced yates was a changeling for most of this episode, since she was in and out so often. but he just gets to have a girlfriend!!! i think it's kind of a shame he never seemed to get any romantic chemistry with the rest of the cast…picard and janeway and kirk all get love interest from the main cast…but i still love watching him flirt and make eyes at this lady

and then we get to WORF……………tbh i was so worried about him changing the atmosphere and i really liked how the atmosphere was already. but the s4 atmosphere is already different in a great way. it was a serious episode w a serious plot yet i was giggling nonstop. and klingon stuff is SO dry on tng and so lively on ds9. idk why i was worried. i am very sad they prince zuko'd him again though

ALSO lol when he ordered prune juice and quark laughed at him and worf gave him the look. this is the most i have liked quark in like an entire season i'm so afraid something bad will happen and ruin it

the dax/worf comes on a little strong ESPECIALLY when i am still sooo :( over no riker e worf e deanna content but they ARE fun to watch. dax seems like a natural choice too since curzon was buddies with so many klingons, i just wish she was SLIGHTLY less forward...this is his first episode...give it time to breathe. maybe odo/kira and bashir/garak has just got me stuck on slow burns for ds9

i do like worf's position here too…he's always stuck in the middle of klingon and starfleet bullshit. it sucks that he got racially profiled YET AGAIN but at least sisko was like "and you absolutely do NOT have to do this" instead of putting on the pressure like picard talking to a bajoran. also, him starting a bar fight on purpose was great

worf and odo conversation………..theyre gonna be so grumpy w each other and i cannot wait

i missed gowran. his eyes are so huge. i didn't always really care when he showed up in tng but somehow he and his enormous eyes have become really special to me. same genre of character as dukat i think

at first i thought sisko was dadding worf a little and maybe he was a TINY bit but i also think it's nice that he's just seeing himself in worf and trying to help him out. i liked all of their conversations a lot because sometimes people are weird about worf being klingon and sisko was actually totally normal and respectful about it. he would never be like worf kill yourself. never.

sisko was SO good in this ep i love when he bends the rules also. getting measured for a new suit and letting garak overhear shit on purpose is very clever but at the same time he's not even trying to be subtle. he knows the right thing to do isn't always following the rule book and he's not even pretending he can do both. unlike PICARD. i think he went bald to flex on picard actually like he does do it better love and light to sir patrick stewart

bashir advising his little guys in the infirmary…please he's so in charge. i also loved him and odo very earnestly wishing each other safety int eh upcoming attack. THEY'RE FRIENDS!!!!!

dukat and sisko were gay this whole episode. i think very seriously there should be a sisko/dukat movement just like there's a bashir/garak movement. i didn't think much of dukat first but i like him more every time i see him. he's just really funny and also gay

quark and garak talking about the cloying qualities of humanity over root beer ??? that was also gay. again, quark in this episode…a breath of fresh air. for once he's just being the fun kind of horrible. also when he wanted to defend his bar and rom stole his weapon lol "i will kill him" "with what?" i love odo sm

i love that kira pointed out the irony of her saving and GETTING STABBED for the cardassian government. times have CHANGED WORF LOOKS GREAT IN RED! he's not head of security anymore but i like that he gets a thinker's job…"worf is a big ugly dumb brute" jokes were OLD AND TIRED on tng!!!

anyway, s4 seems amazing so far. it's almost everything i already liked about ds9 but much more serious and funny at the same time. i will miss the post-war atmosphere since we're not mid-war again but i am really excited to see where it goes

of course! so im assuming youre talking abt my tasha/worf post which like, the more i think about it the more i love them. they just seem like they really get each other, and of course i love a good sparring buddies romance

less rare i think but i like tasha and data specifically as like,,, friends who had sex once and were like "hey wait that was fun lets keep doing that" but it never occurs to them to make it romantic and they dont need to. theyre just pals with scheduled fuck sessions because the intimacy and routine is comforting to them

ive definitely mentioned this before but data/riker means everything to me. i was told before i started watching that i'd like data/geordi, and i do! theyre great and i love them!! but nobody warned me about how data/riker would hit me like a truck.

related but not necessarily tied to any specific ship: i think data is only a top in the way that like, stone butches are. he likes making other people feel good but he doesn't really see the point in having anything done to him and he doesn't like to worry about having the right reactions to things. yes im projecting

not exactly a ship, just a thing i know to be true, but picard used to be involved with dr crusher's husband before he died. i think there is probably evidence against this but i also don't care. they were both cheating on each other with him and it was a big mess. thats why she was so awkward abt working with him in the first episode

picard: old british dad. tea? everyone thinks he deserves to just retire and hang out. i also love the picard let it snow cover

riker: slut. also they did a SUPER fucked up transporter accident with him and they made 2 rikers and they just let the second riker run around star fleet and didn’t talk about it again

geordi: extremely cool dude. the only logical one on the ship possibly. he and data are bros (potentially homoerotic)

tasha: i know nothing about her but she looks like what het people think butches look like

worf: i like him!!!! he’s a not smooth klingon (we dont talk about the smooth klingons) and he’s a cool dad and i think he’s fuckin jadzia but i also dont think jadzia is in this one. but i saw a gif once of her jumping around his waist to kiss him and i am soft about that.

I was thinking about my TNG things-that-would-be-different-in-the-Good-Timeline post with regard to DS9 and realised that most of the things that would be different for DS9 focus on characters’ relationships and not much else. 

For example:

GARAK AND BASHIR, COME ON PEOPLE I DON’T HAVE TO DRAW YOU A PICTURE MAKE THE SUBTEXT TEXT

Odo and Kira have a close and affectionate friendship which is profoundly important to both of them and is not romantic.  At All. 

Kira and Dax do have a romantic relationship, although it eventually becomes more of a “best friends who used to bang” situation; it helps Kira to unwind and express the more playful and dare she say even sometimes hedonistic side of her personality which out of necessity she stifled for a long time, and Jadzia gets to smooch a cute pixie butch.

NONE OF THOSE BORING BLAND BOYFRIENDS FOR KIRA GOD THEY WERE ALL SO AWFUL WHY THE FUCK IS IT THAT BAJORAN WOMEN HAVE FASCINATING PERSONALITIES FOR GOOD OR EVIL BUT BAJORAN MEN ARE STALE WATER CRACKERS

to her own surprise as much as anyone else’s Kira ends up in a comfortable and stable throuple sort of arrangement with the O’Briens and they bring up their children together and she feels... safe??? sounds fake but okay

Jadzia and Worf still happen basically the same way okay, so do Sisko and Kasidy, in case you wondered

Quark and Grilka get married again like on purpose; Odo raids the wedding reception (he can’t really explain for what, just a general sense of MALFEASANCE)

In more actually plot-related things:

JADZIA DOESN’T DIE.  Terry Farrell gets to adjust her schedule how she likes and Jadzia is FINE.  SHE WILL LIVE A LONG HEALTHY LIFE.  SHE AND WORF WILL HAVE WEIRD-LOOKING AND MUCH-LOVED KIDS.

Julian is terribly worried that his relationship with Garak will be ruined because he kept his whole genetic situation a secret.  Garak’s response is best summarised as “You kept something not only scandalous but incredibly important to you and laden with agonising daddy issues a secret from me for years and while I sometimes suspected you were keeping something back I never would have guessed what it was.  I am so proud of you I could pop and if I were physically capable I would want to have your illegal GMO babies right now.  Let’s try anyway, get over here.”

ALL WORF’S FRIENDS FROM THE ENTERPRISE COME TO HIS WEDDING THEY WOULDN’T MISS THAT FOR THE WORLD CAPTAIN PICARD GIVES WORF AWAY

Will Riker can’t help but notice, for the thousandth time, that Deanna always smells good. It’s not only that she’s female. He has to give it to women because they do tend to smell better. And it’s something more than fragrances or lotions. More than the sandalwood oil he once gave her. It’s not even some fragrance from Betazed.

There’s something that’s intrinsically her going all the way back to when they first met on her home world. Something that has lingered into the years on Enterprise together. And whatever it is, it’s intoxicating. He could spend his whole life trying to figure out what it is.

She talks to the fish in the aquarium in her quarters. Deanna knows her fish and can distinguish each of them from the others. Will knows that she named them after various characters from stories. They aren’t stories from Betazed. Because most of their stories are told telepathically, and the names don’t always have a spoken equivalent. Most of them are named things like Calamity Jane, Butch Cassidy, Bonnie & Clyde, Annie Oakley, Paul Bunyan, and Old Blue.

He’s also caught her talking to Picard’s fish, Livingston, in the Ready Room. He’s not really sure if the captain named the fish, or if Deanna named it.

Some time ago he even woke one morning to hear her chatting softly to her plants, the orchids in particular, as she watered them. It had been an early morning after a late night when they were both too overly tired to sleep. They had shared a few drinks, synthenol for him and hot chocolate for her, and fallen asleep on her couch somewhere past zero two hundred. Her voice was soft and lilting as she murmured encouragement to the temperamental flowers and ran her finger lightly over their leaves. It was downright cheerful for someone running on five hours of sleep.

Something inside his gut had turned into mush at the sight and sound. And she had frozen for a long moment. Suddenly reminded he was there and acutely aware that he was awake. Even in the dim light, he could see her neck flush. And she moved about the rest of her watering rounds that morning in silence while Will felt disappointed that she had stopped and tried to fake that he was asleep again.

She’s gentle and tender, and he’s the biggest sucker for Deanna Troi with kids. When Alexander was on board, he couldn’t fault Worf for being so drawn to her. Or fault Alexander for not minding spending time with Deanna. The younger children on board adore her, and more than once he’s needed to consult with her about something and inquired only to find she was in the learning centers and indulged himself.

Somewhere around the incident with Clara Sutter he realized that children open up to her for the same reason why adults do—because of her compassion and her candor. They light up around her and vie for her attention. She is willing to crawl into their world and see things from their perspective. They clamor after her, and more than once she’s been late to lunch or dinner with him because several refused to let her leave. Her patience with them and for their stories seems fathomless. She gives each one her undivided attention in turn. And their trust in her is the purest thing in any galaxy.

It occurs to him, time and again, how great a mother she would be. Still might be. And that little spark of hope hits, all the times he’s half wondered if they might have had a family. What could have been between them. What still might be someday. The mom she might be. The mom she was. And, in a way, still is. He’ll never forget her radiant smile when Pulaski nestled Ian into her arms. Or the resonant grief Ian left behind merely a day or so later.

Their bond at that time wasn’t what it had been. But he’d felt the resonant ache a room away for days and weeks. He’d had to pull her from duty because she wanted nothing more than to bury herself in work. But she needed to grieve. And she couldn’t lie to him about it because he felt the hurt like phantom limb pain.

She is private in grief. He let her have her space for the first day, but he came by at night to urge her to eat something. She picked at things for days. Even chocolate was hard to get down. Will spent more than one night on her couch, and sharing a bed and holding her in hopes she would sleep. A few times he found her curled in a chair and lost in her own thoughts. Sometimes asleep in her bed or the sounds of a bath running. It took time to ease back into Starfleet routine again. She slept with the little blanket they’d sent her back to her quarters with Ian bundled into. Slept with it for weeks at least. She still keeps it in the bottom drawer in her restroom. He found it once by accident when she had been released from sickbay after one incident or another and he was searching for her robe to make her more comfortable.

Her empathy can be her undoing in moments… but it is a truly a gift. She embodies it well. He and Geordi might have had a chuckle at Barclay’s supposed Goddess of Empathy. But Will knows how much Barclay missed. It’s not about emotion for its own sake. It’s about her acceptance of all emotions. Her willingness to be present with the crew in all feelings. To examine them and sort through them in a meaningful way.

Deanna Troi has challenged him and pushed him. He’s a better person, a better first officer, and a better man because of his various relationships with her. And she is his Imzadi in the deepest sense. The first to see all that he is as a person and accept it. Accept all of him, strengths and faults. And sometimes he’s still not sure how to process that.

She’s said things to him that no one else except a superior officer could get away with saying—and even not always something an officer should say to him. But even the hardest words to hear have not been untrue. Another of her gifts is seeing people for who they are. And sometimes letting them know she sees who they are even when they try to delude themselves. He’s had those moments.

He’ll always be grateful she saw the alleged mighty Kyle Riker for who he was. And so neatly disarmed the figurehead that had always loomed in Will’s mind. Parents are complicated, and she understands that as fully as he does.

Deanna Troi a deeply passionate person. The most passionate person he has ever met. And that’s probably saying a lot. Will has spent more than his fair share of time on Risa. The Risians know a lot about pleasure. But it’s not the same thing. With Deanna it’s more than the physical. There’s something intoxicating about her that he could spend his whole trying to unravel.

And right now he doesn’t want to unravel anything. Because she smells good in the middle of the night, wrapped around him like a Markonian vine.
